amazee.io Quest#

Free your mind and do something fulfilling!

After three years of consecutive employment, Amazees get three weeks off, paid, to free their mind and to fulfill a personal challenge which excites them and grows them as a person.

The purpose is not to be considered a standard sabbatical, but rather an opportunity to do something you see as a personal achievement, which you may not normally take the time to do. To be adventurous, create something amazing or do something life affirming.

To be eligible, the project must fulfill the following criteria:

  • The project lasts for a maximum of 3 weeks and takes you on a profound personal journey
  • The employee has more than 3 years of consecutive employment; can do one quest every 3 years; and it can't be accumulated
  • Project is announced to your Lead and CEO at least 6 months in advance
  • Timeframe is approved by your Lead and CEO
  • Project subject is approved by the CEO
  • The preparation and execution of the project must be documented to be available for posting as blogs on the amazee.io website

While some people may choose to take this opportunity to leave home and travel, this can also be undertaken within one’s normal working hours, maintaining family routine.

Examples#

These are examples of what the amazee.io Quest could be for different people, to help kickstart one’s own ideas:

  • Create something, build something - a hand made furniture set, a series of artworks etc.
  • Be adventurous - climb that mountain, row the upper Nile, trek across a desert
  • Be active - run an ambitious set distance every day, take a physical journey
  • Centre yourself - go on that retreat or pilgrimage.
  • Be bigger than yourself - volunteer at a shelter, work at a wildlife rescue, plant 1000 trees

There is always some fine print involved

  • HR is available as a sounding board, to help develop the subject before chatting to the CEO
  • Be sure it is a fitting time and that the team can manage with you being off
    • It is up to the employee to ensure all work and tasks are handed over
  • Talk to Marketing to line up the blog timing and create an agenda of posts that suit the activity
  • Marketing may also provide 1-2 pieces of SWAG that are relevant to the activity (to be in the photos!)
  • Take the time out in BambooHR as Other Paid Absences
  • Free your mind and do something fulfilling!
    • And log time in Jira to IOO-19
  • Final timeframe and subject to be sent via email and confirmation signed off by the CEO - cc hr@amazee.io
  • This is a period of PTO from amazee.io, any other costs for the activity are for the employee to cover
